End of life care

Saying goodbye to a beloved companion

Seeing the decline of your beloved companion is always hard and the decision to have them put to sleep may be one of the most difficult choices you ever have to make. It may have become obvious that your pet’s life is drawing to a close, or they may be suffering due to an injury or illness, which has impacted their quality of life.

Unfortunately, it’s less common for our pets to pass away naturally in their sleep, instead, as owners, we’re tasked with making this life-ending decision on their behalf. Choosing to have your pet put to sleep (euthanised) is the kindest thing you can do for them if they’re suffering.

If you have any concerns about your ageing companion or a sudden change in your pet’s health, call us for advice on Rutherglen 0141 643 0404 or Mount Florida 0141 649 5351.

Dignity and care for all pets

At the Avenues Vet Centre, your pet will always be treated with the care and dignity they deserve. We use a dedicated Pet Cremation Service in Glasgow, who will also care for your pet in this way.

Questions we get asked about pet euthanasia include:

  • How will I know when it’s the right time?
  • What will happen during the procedure?
  • Should I stay with my pet?
  • Should I let other pets or my children be there?
  • What will happen afterward?

The final decision ultimately lies with you, however, our veterinary team has the experience and knowledge to offer you advice, explain your pet’s condition and what they will be experiencing, and answer your questions. We are there to support you too, so please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
